In 2008, Women’s Ministries, Women of Power, Int’l, Inc. incorporated into its Annual Resurrection Run 5k and Power Walk, its longtime urgency to reach out to the plight of widows, which live among us. Living and worshiping in the midst of two widowed women, the obvious needs of her mother, widowed for nearly 30 years, and her sister, widowed for eight years, became paramount to her. In search for a means to fulfill James 1:27:“Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world, the organization’s president searched for public service programs to accommodate apparent needs of widows, such as home and yard repairs, from installing door bells to landscaping. Her search resulted in finding no permanent social service programs to provide support for widows, such as the programs that support children of single moms -- the fatherless. She soon noticed that she was regularly worshiping with four widows, ages 30 to 80. Her desire to reach out deepened more. the more she reached out, the more widows she learned of. Many additional needs surfaced, including academic, financial, insurance, budgeting, increasing self-esteem, self-worth, spiritual, mental, social and emotional growth needs, to add to the list --Thus, the beginning of The Widow Project. In 2010, as Women’s Ministries, Women of Power Int’l, Inc, relinquished management of the annual Resurrection Run 5k and Power Walk, her home church, Life Changing Ministries, (pastored by a widow) adopted The Widow Project, as they accepted the banner (torch) to continue the annual event.
